With the release of the PS4 to come later this year, it’s a bit surprising to see that one of Sony’s biggest franchises, Gran Turismo, won’t be coming out for the system when it launches. Granted, so far the PS4 has had no trouble in selling units so far, with over 1 million preorders being made to date, but the fact remains that Sony is only releasing Gran Turismo 6 on the PS3 this year, with no date on when it’ll be coming to the PS4 yet. Of course, there’s the possibility that the PS4 might not get GT6, but instead it might end up getting GT7 instead.
That’s because according to Polyphony Digital CEO Kazunori Yamauchi, it might take so much time for GT6 to come to the PS4 that it might just be better to release it as GT7. His studio right now has a PS4 version in mind, but he noted that if they were to go ahead and make it into GT7 that the “vision” of GT6 may not carry over into the new game. Right now, however, there is no official word on if GT6 is even being released on the PS4 in the first place.
My guess is that it’s going to depend on how long it’ll take to make a Gran Turismo game for the PS4. If they can port GT6 relatively quickly to the PS4, then I feel like they might just go ahead and do it. If it ends up taking more than a year to do it, however, then I’d say that at that time they’re just going to go ahead and take the extra time to make GT7. Makes sense to me, anyway.
