The first ever Culture Japan Con (CJC) took place on the 17th and 18th of August 2013 at Straits Quay Convention Centre Penang Malaysia which turned out to be much more successful than any of us had anticipated for a first event which was attended by 7500 comrades! We sold tickets to 6000 comrades out of which 1500 were pre-orders for 2 day tickets – this gives us a total of about 7500 turnstile attendees over the 2 days. The theme of CJC is “Comrade” and follows on the concept of Culture Japan Night (CJN) where attendees can enjoy activities and interact with guests in a relaxed environment. Wonder Woman has vacilated between bone straight and curly wavy hair for years so I’d say she does. One of the many things that Cliff Chiang did that I love was having Wonder Woman put up her hair with her lasso when she is going to the underworld. I think Wonder Woman should have that look much more often.

Autobiographical Conversations, the crowdfunded book I talked about a couple of months ago, has come out, and copies are now available to buy from Ryan Claytor’s website. Comics about comics can be insightful (The Comic Book History of Comics), sometimes to the point of influence far beyond the field (Understanding Comics), or tedious. I really liked Jenni Gregory’s Dreamwalker series (which ran from 1995-1999), so I was thrilled to see that she’s now back making comics! Summoner is about a woman (and her dog, Ghost) who can talk to the recently deceased. You can buy a print copy (although at $3 + shipping for 16 pages, it’s a bit pricey — and you can’t see how much shipping is until you create an account, which is poor design) or better yet, download the digital version for free (without having to register).
