There are plenty of major franchises, directors, and stars with films coming out in 2024, but these are Screen Rant’s most anticipated movies of 2024.
12 Wolf Man (2025)
Reboot Of: The Wolf Man (1941)
Wolf Man (2025)
Wolfman is a reboot of the classic Universal Monsters movie The Wolfman. Christopher Abbott stars in the lead role and is helmed by The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell. The film follows the same premise as the original and the 2010 reboot, focusing on a man who becomes a werewolf after falling victim to an ancient curse.

Universal’s attempts to reboot the classic Universal Monsters for a modern age have been largely hit or miss. While the infamous failure of the Dark Universe resulted in projects like Dracula Untold and 2017’s The Mummy, 2020’s The Invisible Man proved that these stories could be updated for the 21st century in exciting ways. 2025’s Wolf Man looks to fall into the latter category with The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell helming the project.
While the movie initially began as a pitch from Ryan Gosling with the intention of him starring in the lead role, Wolf Man went through a number of changes over its development, leading to Christopher Abbott taking the role. The original 1941 film focused on Larry Talbot, an aristocratic man who, upon returning to his father’s estate, is bitten by a wolf and is cursed to turn into a werewolf during the full moon.
The updated version of the story looks to make it a tragic story of family, with Abbott’s take on Talbot being a family man trying to protect his loved ones from danger only to be bitten and thus putting them at risk of his monstrous transformation. With The Invisible Man cleverly finding ways to ground the classic horror plot in an emotional, character-driven story, it suggests Wolf Man could similarly break out as a mix of elevated horror and classic monster movie fun.
11 The Fantastic Four (2025)
Reboot Of: Fantastic Four (2015)
Following Disney’s merger with Fox in 2019, The Fantastic Four jumped to the front of the line for movies that fans wanted to see happen. While Marvel’s first family has appeared on the big screen before, the results left many fans disappointed. 2005’s Fantastic Four and its 2007 sequel were seen as more kid-friendly romps, while the 2015 reboot was seen as a misguided and dull attempt to make the franchise edgy.
Now the classic characters of Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, The Human Torch, and The Thing will be brought into the MCU for the first time with an exciting cast assembled for the superhero adventure. Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach will play the members of the titular team, while the rest of the cast features the likes of Julia Garner as Silver Surfer and Ralph Ineson as Galactus.
Fans have been waiting a long time to see these characters done right in a live-action movie and there is a sense that the MCU was always the right place for them. There are also some intriguing elements of how the story will fit into the larger universe, with it confirmed it will take place in the 1960s in an alternate universe. Fans can expect the movie and its characters to play a big role in the plans for Avengers: Secret Wars.

- How to Train Your Dragon
While it is typically Disney that has been remaking their animated classics into live-action movies, DreamWorks is getting in on the trend by remaking their highly acclaimed How to Train Your Dragon. How to Train Your Dragon is set in a Viking world in which the society of warriors battles the dragons of the land only for one timid boy named Hiccup to reveal there is more to these creatures than meets the eye. This begins his heartwarming friendship with the dragon Toothless.
All three movies in the How to Train Your Dragon franchise were nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars and were hailed as a testament to the kind of breathtaking animation that can be achieved these days. To bring the same story to live-action form has given a lot of people pause for concern, but one exciting element is that the original director of the animated movies, Dean DeBlois, will direct the remake as well.
In addition to Gerard Butler appropriately reprising his role as the Viking king, Stoick, alongside a live-action cast of new faces, it seems like the new movie will be honoring the spirit of the original.
9 Superman (2025)
Reboot Of: Man Of Steel (2013)
The film side of James Gunn’s DCU kicks off with the filmmaker bringing one of the most iconic superheroes of all time back to the big screen. Superman (previously titled Superman: Legacy) will be the first live-action appearance of the Man of Steel since Henry Cavill’s exciting yet ultimately pointless cameo at the end of Black Adam. While there are many fans who would have liked to see Cavill continue in the role, Gunn looks to reboot the character for his new take on the DC universe.
David Corenswet (Pearl, Twisters) will don the famous red cape in playing the latest version of Superman. He will be joined by a strong ensemble of actors bringing iconic Superman characters back to the big screen, like Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. There will also be a host of other DC superheroes, proving that Gunn is quickly growing his cinematic universe.
Along with being a welcome return of the beloved character to the movies, Superman will be a true test for Gunn’s DCU and the tone he is setting for his superhero storytelling.

I Know What You Did Last Summer was a movie that came out at the height of the slasher genre resurgence in the 1990s, and decades later, it is still regarded as one of the best movies of that era. The movie follows a group of young friends who accidentally kill a man and decide to cover up the crime. One year later, they find themselves being terrorized by a killer who has knowledge of what they did.
Similar to another iconic slasher movie, Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer will take the route of the “requel”, bringing back classic characters from the original for what is technically a continuation of the story, but also featuring a new cast of young actors to take over the franchise. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. are confirmed to be returning, while the new cast includes Camila Mendes, Madelyn Cline, and Jonah Hauer-King.
It is unclear what path the new movie will be taking in terms of its story, but it was revealed that the anonymity of social media will factor into the characters being terrorized by an unknown threat.

This diverse and skilled cast promises to bring a lot of depth and nuance to their respective roles, enhancing the overall narrative and emotional impact of the film. - James Watkins
- Release Date
- September 13, 2024
- Cast
- James McAvoy , Mackenzie Davis , Scoot McNairy , Alix West Lefler , Aisling Franciosi
Released in 2022, the Danish horror film Speak No Evil follows two families who forge a friendship at a mutual friend’s wedding and later decide to embark on a weekend getaway together, only for the story to take an unsettling turn. The film’s fearless examination of the dangers of trusting strangers and its divisive dark ending stirred up heated debates, prompting intense discussions about the limits of horror storytelling.
With director James Watkins at the helm of this upcoming American remake and the renowned Blumhouse Productions backing the project, Speak No Evil has the potential to elevate the original’s premise. The casting of James McAvoy and Mackenzie Davis in leading roles further heightens anticipation, as their ability to navigate complex, psychologically intense characters promises to bring authenticity to the story.
However, the challenge lies in maintaining the essence of what made the Danish version so impactful, as American remakes of international horror films have sometimes struggled to capture the raw, unfiltered nature of their source material. As production progresses, anticipation mounts to see if the American iteration of Speak No Evil can match or even surpass the unnerving power of its predecessor.
